Remain to the original Aspiration
Inside Yu Shuxin live many different “selves.”
You can never seem to sum her up in a single sentence —
just as she has never hidden her joys, angers, sorrows, or delights.
In the end, as she faces the world with openness, she reveals her own
“measured ”drama”—appearing spontaneous, yet in fact with a clear sense of order and priority.
In this moment, Yu Shuxin acts on instinct, living out what her heart desires.
In recent days, actress Yu Shuxin has been living a very fulfilling life—the drama My Journey to You wrapped filming not long ago, and she gave herself a break, embarking on a “super grand trip.”
Known for always being a “content-rich celebrity,” this time she also shared her travel photos in real time. Through each vivid film snapshot and the little musings she jotted down in the comments section, it’s not hard to notice that, in these moments, the parts of her that don’t feel like a celebrity—the girlish charm and brightness—naturally shine through.
At her 20s, Yu Shuxin hoped that the image she projected to the world would convey happiness and positive energy. Now, when she’s asked the same question again, she gives the same answer. “I’m quite a sentimental person. I used to love claw machines, and I still love claw machines; I used to enjoy deep-sea fishing, and I still enjoy deep-sea fishing. I haven’t picked up any brand-new hobbies, but I do break them down into Level 1 and Level 2—building upward from my own existing interests. When it comes to things I truly enjoy, I can stick with them.”
Through the traces of time, what you still see is Fish-head Star.
Nothing has really changed—I’ve always truly enjoyed it.
Yu Shuxin doesn’t draw a strict line between work and life, and she admits that sometimes work feels just like living. “I’ll take photos I like while still in full makeup—it’s something I really enjoy.” At this, she pauses and tilts her head in thought. “Every day when I go to film, I also really enjoy it. It seems like I can enjoy almost any kind of work. I don’t really treat it as something hard to get through—unless it’s an extremely difficult job, like yesterday…”
She suddenly grows animated as she recalls her thoughts from yesterday, when she was dubbing the character Gwen in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Gwen is a cool, heroic kind of girl—a type she’d never voiced before. She was afraid she wouldn’t be able to portray her in a way that felt fitting and compelling, and so she remained tense the whole time. Fortunately, in the end, she pulled it off smoothly.
“If this were a dubbing class, I think I’d be the top student, because all the teachers praised me—and I even finished three hours ahead of schedule! ”Her voice lifts playfully at the end, and in that moment, she’s simply a little girl basking in praise.
It’s as if there’s an energy field surrounding Yu Shuxin—just being near her, you can’t help but be touched by her vitality and feel uplifted by the force of her powerful inner drive.
This vibrant energy of hers extends into other areas as well. Yu Shuxin’s outfits have always drawn attention, serving as a “style template” for many. She openly admits she doesn’t have one particular favorite fashion style—she’ll wear any style, and she’ll try them all. Her daily outfits change with her mood, the weather, and other factors. Since she’s been traveling recently, she tries to match her look to the character of each place she visits.
“For example, in Los Angeles, I’ll go for something more passionate and lively; in Hong Kong, I’ll lean into a trendier style—bright, eye-catching, and fun, with a mix-and-match approach; in Korea, I’ll go for something a little sexy, a little feminine. I’m about to head to Australia, and there I’ll probably wear more solid-color one-piece outfits—it has such a natural, outdoorsy vibe.”
Yu Shuxin also likes to give her outfit posts self-defined labels, and when it comes to labels, she can list them off like treasured keepsakes: “‘Daily Xin Look’ came about because when I was in Hengdian, I had an outfit every day—like a diary. ‘Looks from the Stars’ are outfits that come from the styles in my own heart.” She recalls that she used to love coming up with random titles, many of which she only ever used once or twice.
Everyone who sees me feels as if they just saw me yesterday.
During this trip, Yu Shuxin reunited with old friends she hadn’t seen in three years, as well as her college roommate. The distance created by living in different countries and following different life paths seems to vanish completely with her. When asked about her “friendship-preserving” secret, she proudly revealed that she’s now so naturally warm and friendly that even with strangers she can quickly feel at ease—let alone with old friends. Those three years without seeing each other felt as if they never existed.
“Everyone who sees me feels like they just saw me yesterday. The funny thing is, my Korean roommate didn’t even seem to know I became an entertainer—she probably just thought I was always taking photos and posting them on Instagram. It wasn’t until someone recognized me on the street that she went, ‘Oh wow, our Yu Shuxin really is a star! ’Actually, the moment we met, I already told her…”
Yu Shuxin found it hilarious—it reminded her of how she used to recommend dramas to her friends. “At first, I’d tell them it was super good, and they wouldn’t think much of it. Then after it finished airing, they’d come back and tell me it was really amazing, and I’d just say, ‘Told you so.’ I always tell people things in the most straightforward way—if it’s not good, I just won’t say anything.”
I am a driving force.
Today’s shoot had a ballet theme. A beam of light cast itself against a pink backdrop, and Yu Shuxin stepped into the interplay of light and shadow. In the moments when the photographer lowered the camera, she swayed her skirt as if no one else were around, sometimes twirling—like a swan playing with the light.
I was just thinking—when I’m 30, 40, or 50, will I still be wearing this kind of ballet style? Should I transform into a mature, sophisticated woman instead? But later I thought, if by then I’m still wearing ballet style, one day looking soft and pink, the next day switching to something mature, and the day after to another style altogether—being ever-changing is actually pretty cool, right? Girls shouldn’t feel like they have to be a certain way just because their age changes.”
Following this thread, we began talking about the future—about her upcoming goals and motivations
“It’s still quite large, so I’m too lazy to talk about it. I never say things in advance; I just hand in my ‘report card’ when the time comes.I’m a driving force— I’ll never do things that stay the same, and I’ll never do things that are worse than before. I’ll only keep moving forward.”
In her words, you can almost see that version of her who, suspended on wires, refused to give up and kept saying, ‘Let’s do it again.’ You can see her rolling in the mud all day, pushed down into the water, gulping down muddy water without stopping. As an actress, Yu Shuxin insists on moving forward along her own timeline—advancing step by step.
Question and Answer
W = Wonderland
Y = Yu Shuxin
W: What’s your favorite item in your wardrobe?
Y: Lately, I’ve been liking MLB’s monogram print dress, GIVENCHY’s lock-detailed boots, the VOYOU handbag, D’ZZIT’s cargo pants—and today’s REPETTO ballet flats are also pretty nice.
It’s not just one item, it’s several items. (laughs)
W: On this trip, did anything interesting happen? And when you travel, do you usually plan things out or go with the flow?
Y: In Hong Kong, I queued up to eat at one of those noodle shops where you share a table with strangers. It had been a long time since I last shared a table with someone, and I even ran into two people who recognized me—we took a photo together. The whole experience felt really fresh. I usually decide where I want to go and plan out the places I want to visit, so I guess I’m more of a planner.
