Yu Shuxin made a strong impression right from her debut with her bold and distinctive personality.

Her face, full of youthful glow and collagen, is often lit up with a sweet smile. She plays around freely without worrying about her image, sometimes even pulling a few exaggerated expressions in just seconds. At first glance, you’d think, This girl is cool. But her “coolness” isn’t superficial; it comes from a strong inner self. She doesn’t care about others’ judgments, dares to be herself, and refuses to follow the crowd.

She broke the stereotype that round-faced actresses can’t play villains. In her debut drama, The Border Town Prodigal, she portrayed “Qing She,” a dancer-spy with a double identity. Later, in the hit series The Advisors Alliance, she took on the role of the ruthless and calculating Lady Liu. The scheming hidden behind her subtle glances and raised brows was a stark contrast to her usual sweet, smiling demeanor.

In the youth romance drama, Youth, she delivered a lively and authentic performance as a bright, sunny girl who gradually loses herself in love. Her portrayal of the character’s emotional journey — from innocence to confusion — was nuanced and effortless. The subtle handling of the character’s transformation from beginning to end drew the audience in, taking them along on a rollercoaster of emotions as the story unfolded.

In the recently concluded drama My Amazing Boyfriend 2: Unforgettable Love, she played the female lead, portraying Tian Jingzhi — a quirky national sweetheart with a wildly imaginative mind. The role showcased the mischievous and whimsical side of her personality, blending playfulness.

Off-screen, Esther is also a true fashion enthusiast — known for having a “rainbow wardrobe.” She’s never afraid to experiment with bold and unique styles, and her mastery of color coordination is nothing short of impressive.

Esther Yu: Recently, it would probably be Huang Bo. I think he’s really talented and very funny—and I’m also a pretty funny person.

YOUNG Fashion: What’s your favorite fashion item for spring?
Esther Yu: These colorful little clips are very popular recently. The bright colors really represent the fresh vibe of spring.

YOUNG Fashion: What are your hobbies in daily life?
Esther Yu: I like going out to sea for fishing—sea fishing, shopping, and reading.

YOUNG Fashion: Tian Jingzhi is a quirky, fun-loving star with no idol baggage. What about you in private?
Esther Yu: Haven’t I shown that enough? I’m also a quirky and playful girl, yeah~

YOUNG Fashion: What’s the most essential part of your skincare routine?
Esther Yu: Removing makeup and then applying a moisturizing mask.

YOUNG Fashion: If you had to compare yourself to a plant, which one would you be?
Esther Yu: Probably a poppy, because my surname is Yu, and I’m beautiful too. There’s actually a flower called “Yu Mei Ren” (Poppy).

YOUNG Fashion: Any memorable moments from filming?
Esther Yu: Something funny — when Mike arrived, he got heatstroke. The next day, we used over ten boxes of big ice packs to cool him down.

YOUNG Fashion: What kind of clothing style do you most want to try?
Esther Yu: My style is quite versatile. Usually, if I want to try something, I’ve already done it once—I’m open to trying anything.

YOUNG Fashion: What clothing style would you recommend to your fans?
Esther Yu: Most of my fans are students, so I think it’s better not to dress as wildly as I do with all the bright colors. A simpler, solid-color style would be more suitable for school or work. After all, I’m a different kind of spark.

YOUNG Fashion: If you had a full day off, how would you spend it?
Esther Yu: On a full day off, I’d probably stay home playing games, shopping, and browsing Taobao.
